Green Is The New Red: How to Style Kundan Jewellery for the Modern Wedding Season
For decades, the Indian wedding trousseau has been synonymous with one color: a fiery, passionate red. But in the world of modern bridal fashion, a new heir has claimed the throne. Enter emerald green—a hue that's regal, refreshing, and rich with heritage. Green kundan jewellery isn't just a fleeting trend; it's a powerful style statement that signifies elegance, prosperity, and a beautiful connection to nature.
If you've been captivated by the allure of green kundan but are unsure how to weave it into your wedding wardrobe, you're in the right place. We’re moving beyond the theory and diving straight into practical, chic ways to style these stunning pieces. Whether you're the bride, the bridesmaid, or a guest ready to turn heads, here’s your guide to making green the most glamorous color of the season.
Scene 1: Effortless Glam for the Sun-Kissed Mehendi
The Mehendi ceremony is all about vibrant colors, joyful moments, and a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere. It's the perfect occasion to debut your green kundan in a way that feels fresh and contemporary, not heavy or overpowering. The key is to let one piece shine in the beautiful daylight.
Think of pairing a striking emerald green kundan choker with an outfit in a soft, complementary palette. Ivory, blush pink, or even a pale mint green sharara or lehenga creates a stunning canvas that makes the green stones pop. This contrast feels modern and incredibly photogenic.
For a balanced look, if you're wearing a statement choker, keep the rest of your jewellery minimal. A delicate maang tikka and a simple bracelet are all you need. Let your hair down in soft, romantic waves and opt for dewy, sun-kissed makeup to complete a look that’s effortlessly chic and perfectly suited for a day of celebration.
Scene 2: The Regal Bride - A Modern Maharani Moment
For the bride who wants to blend tradition with a bold, contemporary edge, green kundan is the ultimate choice. Moving away from the conventional red allows you to craft a look that is uniquely yours, exuding a serene confidence and regal charm. This is your Modern Maharani moment.
A full, layered green kundan bridal set is the epitome of opulence. The magic lies in the art of layering: start with a heavy choker that sits gracefully on the collarbone, and add a longer, more intricate rani haar that might feature pearls or other semi-precious stones. The combination creates depth and a truly royal silhouette. Don't forget the matching ornate jhumkas, which frame the face beautifully.
Instead of a red lehenga, consider a majestic, deep emerald green velvet one for a stunning monochromatic statement. Alternatively, a rich cream or antique gold lehenga provides a classic, elegant backdrop that allows the spectacular craftsmanship of your kundan set to take center stage. This look isn't just an outfit; it's a legacy.
Scene 3: Cocktail Hour & The Chic Reception Look
The evening reception or a glamorous cocktail party calls for a different kind of styling. Here, the aesthetic is less traditional and more high-fashion. It's about sophistication, clean lines, and making a single, powerful statement. For the modern woman, this often means choosing one hero piece and letting it do all the talking.
This is where a magnificent pair of oversized green kundan chandbalis comes into play. To create a truly chic and contemporary look, skip the necklace entirely. This minimalist approach elongates your neckline and draws all attention to your face and the exquisite earrings. It’s a confident move that reads as effortlessly stylish.
Pair these statement earrings with a sleek, modern silhouette. A deep navy blue concept saree, a tailored black gown, or even a jewel-toned jumpsuit will provide the perfect dramatic backdrop. Pull your hair back into a chic updo or a low, polished bun to ensure nothing distracts from your stunning hero piece. The result is pure, unadulterated glamour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear green kundan jewellery with a red or pink outfit?
Absolutely! This is a classic example of color blocking and can look incredibly regal. The key is balance. If you're wearing a bright red or rani pink lehenga, let a green kundan set be your primary accessory. The contrast is celebratory and bold. For a softer look, pair it with a blush pink outfit where the green can truly stand out.
How do I care for my kundan jewellery to make it last?
Kundan is delicate. To ensure its longevity, always store your pieces in a soft, cloth-lined box, separate from other jewellery to avoid scratches. Keep it away from moisture, perfumes, and hairspray—apply these first, then wear your jewellery. After wearing, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to remove any oils or residue.
Is green kundan jewellery only for weddings?
Not at all! While larger sets are perfect for weddings, smaller pieces can be styled for various festive occasions. A pair of elegant green kundan studs or a simple pendant necklace can elevate your look for a Diwali party, a family puja, or a formal dinner. It's all about choosing a piece that's appropriate for the scale of the event.
What makeup works best with emerald green kundan?
Green is a versatile color. For a classic, dramatic look, pair your jewellery with smoky, kohl-rimmed eyes and a soft nude or peach lip. This keeps the focus on your eyes and the stunning jewellery. Alternatively, you can opt for a minimalist eye with a bold berry or deep red lip for a chic, contemporary vibe. Just avoid matching your eyeshadow to the jewellery to keep the look modern.
